The Mental Health Foundation has been leading on Mental Health Awareness Week since 2001. This is an important week in DLP’s calendar as it serves as a crucial reminder on the importance of our mental wellbeing and building a supportive workplace culture which fosters good mental health.

This year’s theme is ‘community’ which celebrates the power and importance of community. This theme showcases that when individuals feel part of a safe and positive community, they have better mental health and wellbeing. Human beings thrive when they have strong connections with other people as it makes us feel that we belong, are safe and have support through hard times. Communities are important for reminding us that we are not alone.

At DLP we have worked to foster a sense of community across the company to help our staff feel like they have a sense of belonging within their teams and making the workplace somewhere that is safe and enjoyable. Through this work we have introduced lunchtime walking clubs to encourage our staff to step outside during their lunch breaks with their colleagues, in addition to regular team socials and all staff events. We recognise that feeling part of a team is important to feeling happy and safe at work, giving our staff a sense of purpose.

This year we have taken part in ‘Wear it Green Day’ to show our support to the brilliant work that the Metal Health Foundation does in raising awareness for mental health and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues. We also had a great lunchtime learning session with Peter Brown who has recently completed his training to become a Mental Health First Aider. This role provides a safe space for our staff to voice any mental health issues they are experiencing in a confidential and supportive environment. This is a significant milestone for DLP and demonstrates our commitment to supporting the mental wellbeing of our staff.

At DLP we are committed to supporting our staff and ensuring that we create a safe and happy workplace as we recognise that mental health is crucial to our wellbeing.
