Pennine Five

Sheffield

Client: RBH Properties

The Pennine Five campus has been celebrated regionally within the property sector. DLP Planning, as agent for the applications and lead planning consultant, helped secure planning permission for different uses within the building, such as offices, teaching and flexible meeting spaces. The scheme responded to the existing context as well as the emerging Connecting: Sheffield programme.

The area is undergoing significant change and this development has contributed to the revitalisation with a vibrant, high-quality central plaza providing access to open space with infrastructure for locals, providing health and well-being benefits. Redefining the image of the area with the largest sign in Sheffield ,a vertical “PENNINE FIVE” marking the site as a destination for business and public space.

The Outcome

A key objective of the development was to reduce the consumption of materials through reusing and prioritising alterations over demolition, saving 170,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Glazing has been replaced throughout with advanced, energy-saving alternatives contributing to an improved Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating. It has been reinsulated, safeguarding low air permeability and reducing heat loss, making the building more energy efficient.

The project won the Prestigious Sustainable Development of the Year at the South Yorkshire Property Gala Awards 2023. Pennine Five is the catalyst that will drive future investment in this part of central Sheffield. A previously inaccessible and closed-off campus, the development has secured key occupants who recognise the benefits of the location, community and Connecting: Sheffield.
